The Cashout: The Early Numbers For US Sportsbooks This Football Season
Share

TCL will offer market analysis in the US gambling space in The Cashout every Friday to paid subscribers. The weekly post will focus on metrics in the US market as well as regulatory and legal developments as events warrant.

The start of the football season in late August and early September is a good bellwether for where things stand in the US sports betting market each year. This is when users sign up and are reactivated in huge numbers, and it’s the start of the busiest four months of the year for sportsbooks.

The early returns: It’s FanDuel and DraftKings, and then there’s everyone else. And things are looking particularly bleak for ESPN Bet as it starts its first full football season.

FanDuel and DraftKings are running their own race

While many have long said that it will take time for the US market to shake out, with each passing year it’s getting more difficult to see how anyone cuts into the lead that FanDuel and DraftKings have established over the market.
