Gambling Legislation Update, April 26: Sports Betting Bills Await Fate
The Closing Line will aggregate efforts to legalize sports betting and online casinos (and other gambling bills) in this space on Fridays, as long as the legislative season is still active.
Mississippi
A conference committee is expected to tackle the issue of expanding sports betting online in Mississippi, although there hasn’t been any movement of late. The state already has retail sportsbooks.
Minnesota
After earlier optimism in Minnesota, the prospects of legal sports betting have dimmed of late. A legal battle between a horse racing track and gaming tribes in the state is making a tricky issue even more contentious. There is less than a month left in the legislative session.

Other gambling bill and regulation updates
Legalization of sports betting is at least a possibility in negotiations around a larger gambling package in Alabama.
Legislation that would ban college player prop bets is on the table in North Carolina; the state just launched sports betting this year.
Hard Rock says it could open up Florida sports betting beyond its monopoly at some point in the future.
A bill was filed in Pennsylvania to ban the use of credit cards for online gambling.
Gaming measures didn’t make the cut in New York’s budget.
