TCL will offer market analysis in the US gambling space in The Cashout every Friday to paid subscribers, along with a news roundup for free subscribers. The weekly post will focus on metrics in the US market, as well as regulatory and legal developments as events warrant.

Can you download a sports betting app with a 3.5” disk?

I take a look at the weekly numbers from New York sports betting, which show no new traction for ESPN Bet. Plus a deep dive into sports betting and fantasy app download metrics from recent weeks and months.

But first, here’s the Friday roundup:

US gambling roundup for Dec. 13

  • A dispatch from the National Council on Legislators from Gaming States winter meeting, where sweepstakes casinos and sportsbooks are a hot-button topic.

  • Meanwhile, the Social and Promotional Gaming Association announced the implementation of a Code of Conduct for its operator members that is “designed to spotlight the processes and technologies already in place at both SPGA member sites and the majority of social casinos offering promotional sweepstakes.” The SPGA’s existing named members are 10 Ten Gaming, Blazesoft, Fliff, FSG Digital, Gold Coin Group, High 5 Entertainment, KHK Games, Kickr Games, Octacom, Rolling Riches, and Woopla Gaming. Nearly 100 sweepstakes operators are serving the US today.

  • And more from that NCLGS meeting, on Mississippi trying to get offshore sportsbooks out of the state.

  • Sports betting bills are coming in Texas and South Carolina.

  • The American Gaming Association president fires back on opinions that legal sports betting is evil.

  • Gambling.com acquired OddsJam parent company Odds Holdings, Inc., for $80 million upfront and up to $80 million on an earnout.

Last week in this space, I took a look at how ESPN Bet has been doing (paywalled) with the early numbers since account linking with the core ESPN app began in November.
